The law enforcement agency and the administration is still in a firm stance although Section 144 was passed at Basurhat in Companiganj of Noakhalil. In order to prevent any untoward incident, 300 policemen (100 in phases) and 16 RAB members have been deployed.

Besides the district police, 200 police personnel have been brought from Rangamati — including an Additional Superintendent of Police and an Executive Magistrate in the administration. Police members have been stationed at important places in Basurhat since Thursday morning.

“Police have been stationed at important places in Basurhat since morning. Besides, multiple mobile teams of the police are on full-time patrol. RAB members are also patrolling,” said Mohammad Shah Imran, Additional Superintendent of Police of Begumganj Circle.

“Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza was seen with 15-20 followers since morning. The overall situation is calm. No untoward incident occurred anywhere,” he added.

According to police and administration sources, Section 144 issued by the upazila administration expired at 12:00 am on Wednesday due to the deteriorating law and order situation in Basurhat. The administration has decided to deploy law enforcement forces in Basurhat and intensify patrols without issuing a new Section 144 in the situation that has arisen.

Section 144 is not being issued in Basurhat currently. However, arrangements have been made to deploy a sufficient number of executive magistrates, police and RAB members to prevent any untoward incidents. No one will be allowed to hold any meeting there until further notice. Strict administrative action will be taken if anyone tries to create any kind of instability, said DC Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khan.
