Police today arrested three persons in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi for beating a 17-year-old boy suspecting him to be a thief. The three villagers are Abdul Barik, Biddyut Kumar, and Jiten Dhar of Gotia village in Puthia upazila, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting Iftekhayer Alam, additional police super of Rajshahi.

The boy was Doel (17), son of Saidur Rahman of Tonapara village, the police officer said. On Thursday, Paresh Sarder, a man of Gotia village noticed that the door of his house that he left locked was open and Doel was running out of his home sensing his presence.

As he shouted for catching Doel terming him as a thief, locals caught him and beat him up with sticks tying his hands behind. This morning, a video clip of the beating incident was uploaded on social media and it went viral which drew the attention of police. Doel's father Saidur Rahman filed a case against three villagers for beating his son after police identified those scrutinising the video.
