Hundreds of passport passengers have been stranded in Benapole as a result of an indefinite transport strike that began at 6am on Friday in protest of rising fuel prices.

Passport passengers from India were stranded in Benapole as no long-distance transport left Benapole due to the strike. Many are going to their relatives’ houses in rickshaw vans. Again, many have taken refuge in transport offices and residential hotels.

Passengers returning to India said they were in dire straits due to lack of public transport. They are also worried about how long they will be stuck here.

According to the Jessore District Transport Corporation Workers Union, an indefinite strike was called at a meeting of the Owners Workers Unity Council in Jessore on Thursday night. They told the meeting that raising diesel by Tk 15 per liter would hurt the transport sector.

Although the incidence of corona has decreased, the life of ordinary people has not yet returned to normal. As a result, the income of most people has decreased. In such a situation, the increase in the price of diesel and kerosene has aggravated the suffering of the common man. The general public expects that those concerned will take action to resolve the issue very soon.
