Nepal for increasing naval and air connectivity with Bangladesh

Nepal has expressed interest in increasing naval and air connectivity with Bangladesh, said Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen. He said this at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister said, “Nepal has expressed interest in using Bangladesh's domestic air and sea routes. They expressed interest in using the airports of Syedpur, Sylhet and Chattogram in particular. At the same time, they expressed interest in using naval routes. We have agreed in principle.”

The Foreign Minister said that four MoUs have been signed during the visit of the President of Nepal. Nepal is interested in supplying hydropower to Bangladesh. Besides, According to Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal (BBIN) Initiative, Bangladesh, India and Nepal will be connected first. Later, gradually Bhutan will be added.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen and Foreign Secretary (East) Mashfi binte Shams were present at the press conference.

Nepal's President Bidya Devi Bhandari arrived in Dhaka on Monday on a two-day visit to attend a function marking the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.
