Railway authorities have formed a four-member probe body to investigate the fire that broke out in the power car of the Sylhet-bound Parabat Express from Dhaka, this afternoon (June 11, 2022). Nazmul Islam, chief transportation officer of Bangladesh Railway (east zone), confirmed the development to our Chattogram staff correspondent.

Khairul Kabir, chief transportation officer of Bangladesh Railway (Dhaka Division) was made convener of the committee, said Nazmul. The committee was asked to investigate the reasons behind the fire and submit its recommendations within seven working days regarding averting the future risk of such fire, he added. Earlier, the fire broke out on the Parabat Express in between the Bhanugachh and Shamsernagar station in Kamalganj upazila this afternoon.

Two units of firefighters brought the blaze under control around 2:30 pm which started at 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, the rail communications on the Dhaka-Sylhet route that remained suspended following the fire resumed after four hours.
