India under pressure with Teesta: FM

India has been put under pressure with the Teesta, said Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen. He said this at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday. The press conference was organized on the visit of Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering to Dhaka.

“I am constantly asked about Teesta. As I said – the draft of the Teesta treaty was signed.  And the draft that is signed creates an obligation to implement it. We have put pressure on India with the Teesta,” he said.

Replying to a query, he said, “We have asked for water for irrigation from a river in India on the Zakiganj border in Sylhet. If that water is available, it will be possible to cultivate 5000 acres of land. It is being discussed.”Bangladesh Ambassador to Bhutan AKM Shahidul Karim was present at the press conference.
