Crew of Banglar Samriddhi has called for help after the ship came under a missile attack at a port in Ukraine yesterday. One Bangladeshi sailor dead in the attack. A video posted on Facebook shows Cadet Fariatul Jannat Tuli, a crew member, seeking help: "There was bombing on our ship few minutes back. Our third engineer sir already died. We are in danger.

Please help and rescue us. Please save us. Please, save our lives," she pleaded. In a separate video, a second engineer of the ship, whose name could not be known immediately, also appealed for help. We are running on emergency power supply.

We are on the verge of death. We are yet to be rescued. We are all here. Save us. We received no help yet," he said. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) Executive Director (Commercial), Dr Pijush Dutta, said that their main concern now is to bring back all the Bangladeshi sailors, who survived yesterday's missile attack, home.

Family members of the crew on board Banglar Samriddhi thronged the head office of BSC this morning for updates on their loved ones. They urged the government to take immediate steps to safely bring the crew back home. At least three crew members' families were found waiting at the BSC office. Obaidul Haque, father of crew member Masum Billah, said that he couldn't sleep the entire night after receiving a voice message from his son via Facebook Messenger.

"My son informed us about the attack in a voice message and asked us to pray for him," the worried father said, adding that he tried to contact his son several times but was unsuccessful. Abdullah Al Mamun came for updates on his brother-in-law, Masudur Rahman, an electrical engineer on board Banglar Samriddhi.

The government, including the shipping ministry, foreign ministry, and others are taking necessity measures in this regard, said Pijush while addressing a press briefing at BSC conference room in Chattogram today. BSC Managing Director Suman Mahmud Sabbir is now staying in the ministry in this regard, he informed. Hadisur Rahman, the third engineer of the Bangladeshi flag carrying ship, was killed in the missile attack yesterday. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation owns the vessel.

Banglar Samriddhi with 29 crew members -- all Bangladeshis -- reached the outer anchorage of Ukrainian port Olvia on February 23 to load ball clay. But due to delay in getting the port clearance, the ship failed to leave the port and it got stranded as the port's operations halted after the Russian invasion.
