Oral health is a key indicator of overall health & quality of life. Most of us take good care of our bodies ignoring oral health. This can lead to a range of oral diseases including dental caries, gum diseases, bleeding from gum, tooth loss, oral cancer etc. Complications growing from these diseases can lead to cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, malignancy & so on.

Many food components including minerals, vitamins play important role in oral good health.Today i'm going to focus on the necessity of vitamin C in oral health.

✅vitamin C is so important for oral health. It supports oral health through maintenance of gingiva, periodontal ligament, cementum & alveolar bone which all support teeth. This is partly because of essestial role of vitamin C in collagen synthesis.

☑️Vitamin C helps to keep the connective tissues of our gums healthy & strong & can prevent tooh from loosening.

✅vitamin C can rebuild our gum tissue to protect our mouth from destruction.

☑️Vitamin c helps strengthen our immune system to fight diseases including gum infection, gingivitis etc.

Natural sources of vitamin c : You already probably know that -

➡️Citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C such as orange, lemon, guava etc.. One medium size orange contain 70 mg vitamin C.

➡️vegetables like cauliflower, capsicums, broccoli are very good sources of vitamin C.

➡️other than vitamin c rich fruits we can also have papaya, strawberries to get enough level of vitamin c.

✅Daily intake level of vitamin c should be around 65-90 mg, maximum 2000mg.

⭕We need to be aware of the corrosive effects of chewing vitamin C tablets. These tablets stick to our teeth &  remain on our teeth for longer time.So we should swallow vitamin c tablet instead of chewing it.

⭕Another thing is our enamel is at its weakest after we have eaten vitamin C or drunk any juice containing vitamin c. So we should never ever brush our teeth straight away.Rather we should leave the teeth for a minimum of 30 minutes before brushing. Otherwise, the enamel would be brushed away.
