Therefore, the name of the organization was changed to 'East Pakistan Awami League' by adopting a non-communal policy in the 1955 council. During the liberation struggle, the word East Pakistan was dropped. After the declaration of independence in Bangladesh, the name Bangladesh Awami League was used in all the papers of the expatriate government.

The election symbol boat has been around since the 1970 elections. This organization, one of the oldest in the country, became the organization of the masses of the country by leading every democratic, political and social movement including the war of independence and liberation of Bangladesh. The rise of independent Bangladesh and the history of the Awami League are intertwined.
