Conjoined-head twins sent to Dhaka from Patuakhali

The twins, who were born with conjoined heads, have been sent to Dhaka from Patuakhali for advanced treatment.

With the help of Mehedi Hasan Shibli, director of Focus Diagnostic Center in Patuakhali municipal town the family got able to take the newborns to the capital.

Earlier, the Patuakhali Medical College Hospital authorities advised to take the twin newborns to Dhaka for better treatment but the family failed due to financial crisis. The family has sought the help of donors to help save their children.

Patuakhali Medical College Hospital Associate Professor of Gynecology Dr. Zakia Sultana said, “Conjoined baby and also premature, the twins have been delivered in just 32 weeks. There are twins growing in the womb of the maternity line and their stomachs are also paired and separated from the upper part of the abdomen to the head. They also don't have a separate lever, heart and rectum. They have a single anus, but as having no rectum they are unable to toilet. Which treatment is impossible in Patuakhali. So we suggested taking them Dhaka.”

The twins were born on February 28 in the family of Bashir Sikder and Rekha Begum at Lohalia in Patuakhali Sadar Upazila. Since then they were kept under close observation and given treatment.
