Lucy Helen Francis Holt, a British citizen living in Barishal, who provided health care to the freedom fighters, has been honored with the recognition of Bangladeshi citizenship on International Women's Day.

Lucy Helen Francis Holt received a crest of recognition and honor of Bangladeshi citizenship from the Barishal Election Office in collaboration with the District Department of Women's Affairs on Monday afternoon.

At the same time, Lucy Helen was also given a book of old age allowance by the District Social Service Office.

Divisional Commissioner Saiful Islam Badal was present as the chief guest at the conference held at Dhansiri Auditorium of Circuit House on the occasion. He handed over the crest of honor to Lucy Helen Francis Holt.

Besides, five women were honored for their contribution in different fields. Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Haider presided over the function while Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shahabuddin Khan, Superintendent of Police Maruf Hossain, President of Mahila Parishad Rabeya Khatun and President of Sanak Shah Sajeda were present.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Barishal and handed over a passport with multiple visas to Lucy Helen Francis Holt, a British citizen who has been living in the city's Oxford Mission for a long time. On the same day, the Prime Minister assured that it would be considered whether he could be granted permanent citizenship of Bangladesh. Following this, an inter-ministerial meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to grant Bangladeshi citizenship to Lucy Helen Francis Holt.

Lucy was born on December 16, 1930, in St. Helens, England. He came to Barishal Oxford Mission Hospital in 1962 at the age of 30. After that, he did not return her home.
