6 teens ‘fled to get married’ while preventing friend’s marriage

Six teenagers – three teenage boys and three teenage girls – took the initiative to prevent their other friend’s child marriage, however by doing so, they fell in love with each other and trapped “under the temptation of child marriage” and even they did marriage plan! As per that, they fled to Chattogram and also bought wedding materials, i.e., saree, cosmetics. However, their plans were thwarted by the police.They were apprehended from the railway station area of ​​Kotwali police station in the city on Friday evening. 

It is learned that the houses of five of the detainees are in Boro Kushiria Kaziarkunda village of Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka. One’s house is located at Laksam upazila in Cumilla. They all are school and madrasa students.

Of the three girls – two are in sixth-grade at two local schools in Dhamrai and the other one is in fifth-grade at a local women’s madrasa. Besides, two of the three boys are in eighth and ninth grades and the other is in the ninth-grade of a Cumilla Laksam school.

Among the girls – the sixth grader’s family arranged her marriage, however, they decided to run away from home to marry the boys of their choice.

According to police, citing the detainees, the six of them “got involved in a relationship” when they went to prevent their friend’s child marriage. After that, they have been planning to get married for two weeks and fled to Chattogram by train on Thursday afternoon.

They came to the city with the assurance of a man who was supposed to make arrangements for their stay and marriage. But after arriving here, the man, living in the Bandartila area, was not found available. His mobile phone was also switched off, the police also said. 

However, they managed to stay a night in a house in the Free-Port area of the city with the help of a woman. They had to pay the woman Tk 700 for the night stay there. 

The next morning, they decided to go back to their own houses after visiting different places in the city. Inability to pay the bus fare, they went to the railway station to take the night coach.  Police arrested them from there.

The six were walking around the railway station suspiciously, so the police interrogate them. At that time, two of them introduced themselves as husband and wife and the rest as friends, said Noble Chakma, AC (Kotwali) of the city police. “But they were brought to the police station as there were mismatched in their conversation.” 

“After being brought here, they said that they fled to Chattogram to get married. Saree, cosmetics for the wedding were recovered from them at the time,” the AC also said.He added that the police contacted their families. They will be handed over to their guardians.
