Bangladesh recorded 77 coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike, raising the total number of deaths to 9,661, according to the official figures. Besides, 5,343 Covid-19 cases were confirmed during the period. with the latest, the total number of cases surged to 6,78,937. 

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) informed this in a press release on Friday (April 10, 2021). A total of 26,077 samples were tested at 227 authorized laboratories across the country during the time, the press release added. “The virus positivity rate is 20.49 percent.”

In the past 24 hours, another 3,837 people were discharged from the hospital, raising the total number of cured patients to 5,72,378. The recovery rate by Covid-19 in the country is 84.30 percent while the mortality rate stands at 1.42 percent,” the DGHS press release informed.

Meanwhile, 7,642 COVID-19 patients were diagnosed while 63 deaths related to the disease were reported on Friday. Earlier on 7 April 7, 7626 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the country in a day – which is the highest record in a single day in the country. And on April 6, 7213 cases were confirmed in a day.

Besides, 74 coronavirus deaths were reported in the country on 8 April, Thursday – the highest single-day spike.  The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
