Police have arrested the driver of Hanif Paribahan, the lone accused in the incident of a road crash that killed 17 people at Katakhali in Rajshahi. 

He was arrested from the Mahindra Bypass area of ​​Belpukur Police Station on the outskirts of the metropolis around 2:00 pm on Saturday.The arrestee driver’s name is Abdur Rahim, son of Fazlul Haque of Baripara area of ​​Puthia upazila.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Golam Ruhul Quddus said Abdur Rahim, a driver of Hanif Paribahan, was arrested from the Mahindra Bypass area of ​​Belpukur Police Station on the outskirts of the city at around 2:00 pm.

Earlier on Friday at 1:45 pm, 17 people killed in a three-way collision between a bus, a microbus and a leguna (human hauler) at Katakhali in Rajshahi.

Katakhali police filed a case against the driver of the KTC Hanif bus at night. The bus driver was made the sole accused in the case.

Witnesses including RMP spokesperson ADC Golam Ruhul Quddush and senior Rajshahi Fire Service official Abdur Rauf said a Dhaka-bound Hanif Paribahan bus from Rajshahi collided with a Rajshahi-bound microbus that was coming from Dhaka. A local leguna, at the same time, collided head-on with two vehicles at Kapashia area of ​​Katakhali.

All of the passengers, a total of 17 people, were killed in the cylinder explosion of the microbus, they added.
