Rifat murder: Framing charges against 14 begins

BARGUNA: A Barguna court has begun framing charges against 14 persons in connection with a case filed over the murder of Rifat Sharif.

Md Hafizur Rahman, judge of Barguna Juvenile Court, began trial proceedings at around 11 am on Wednesday (January 8).

Police produced 13 minor accused at court. Prince Molla, who is on bail, was also present at court. After court proceedings, 13 accused were sent back to prison.

M Mojibul Haque Kislu, a lawyer on be half of the plaintiff, told Banglanews: “Framing charges against 14 minor accused has been completed. The court has framed charges, against 13 accused out of 14, under sections 302 and 34 on charges of being directly involved in the murder.”

13 minors accused are Rashidul Hasan Rishan alias Rishan Faraji, 17, Md Rakibul Hasan Rifat Hawlader, 15, Abu Abdullah alias Raihan, 16, Md Oliullah alias Oli, 16, Joy Chandra Sarker alias Chandan, 17, Md Naim, 17, Md Tanvir Hossain, 17, Md Nazmul Hasan, 14, Md Rakibul Hasan Niamat, 15, Md Saiyed Maruf Billah alias Mohibullah, 17, Maruf Mallik, 17, Prince Molla, 15 and Ratul Shikdar Joy, 16.

22-year-old Rifat Sharif, from Barguna sadar upazila, was hacked to death indiscriminately by Minni's alleged former husband Nayan Bond and his aides in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College on June 26 of 2019.

A shocking video of the brutal attack went viral on the social media, sparking widespread outrage and demand for justice from the countrymen.
