887 COVID-19 infections in a day, 14 more die
Bangladesh logged record 887 novel coronavirus infections in last 24 hours until 8:00am Sunday. 14 more people died of COVID-19 during the timeline. With the latest figures, the death toll hit 228 and the number of infections 14,657 in the country, said Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, in the daily online bulletin on the COVID-19 situation. ‘This the highest ever number of infections today… the number of deaths also increased,’ said Nasima. May 10 was the 64th day in Bangladesh since the country registered the first COVID-19 patients on March 8. The country’s first death from the novel virus was reported on March 18. ‘In the past 24 hours, we’ve tested 6,738 samples at 36 labs across the country and the record 887 people were found positive for COVID-19,’ said Nasima. The number of infections from COVID-19 is soaring every day in Bangladesh as the days are coming. In the past seven days, from May 4 to 10, at least 5,202 people were found infected with COVID-19. A month earlier on April 10, the day’s infections were 94, with the total infections as of that day of 424 with 27 deaths. The number of infections increased more than double in the past 10 days, as the number of infections on April 30 was 7,103 with 163 deaths. In the past 24 hours, 236 people also recovered from their infections, raising the total number of recovery to 2,650, she said. Currently, 2,115 suspected patients were in isolation, she added. Among the 14 deaths, 10 were males and four were females. Among the deceased, 10 were males and four were females. Among the females– one aged from 30 to 40-year, one from 51 to 60-year while the rest two aged between 61 to 70-year. Among ten deceased males– four aged between 41 to 50 year, two from 51 to 60 year, three from 61 to 70 year and one aged between 91 to 100 years. Nasima said that the sample collections were going on both from homes and from booths set up at places in the capital and Narayanganj.
