2 jewellery shops looted in Dhaka's Kachukhet area

Burglars took away gold ornaments from two jewellery shops at Rajanigandha Tower in Dhaka's Kachukhet area last night. The owner of the two shops -- both named Rangapori Jewellers -- primarily estimated that more than 300 tola of gold ornaments worth around Tk 2 crore, diamond worth around Tk 35 lakh and Tk 5 lakh in cash were looted.

Al Mamum, manager of the shops, said they shut the outlets on the ground floor around 10:00pm yesterday and came to know about the robbery this morning. In the CCTV footages, three persons were seen entering two shops at the dead of night.

They cut all 24 locks of the shops, he said. The trio along with another person left the tower around 6:00am and they all were carrying bags with them, he said. A security guard and a cleaner of the building are involved in the burglary and they went into hiding after the incident,

Mamun said adding the burglars beat and tied up another security guard during the robbery. Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhasantek Police Station, said they are investigating the incident and filing of a case is underway.
