Release jailed leaders, withdraw cases: Hefajat to home minister

A delegation of Hefajat-e-Islam today demanded the release of its leaders and activists from jails. The leaders came up with the demand during a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at the secretariat around 3:00 pm today," Hefajat said in a press release.

The delegation was led by Sajidur Rahman, secretary general of Hefajat, it said. While giving thanks to the minister for his assistance in releasing its several leasers, Hefajat leaders said many other leaders have been remaining behind bars for over 10 months. The delegation members of Hefajat, a Qawmi madrasa-based organisation, said some families and institutions are facing problems as its leaders remain in jails.

"Under these circumstances, we urge the government to release those Hefajat leaders and activists immediately," added the release. Besides, Hefajat leaders also urged the home minister to withdraw all the cases against Hefajat leaders and activists filed in 2013, 2016 and 2021. The minister assured the delegation of arranging for family members to meet and communicate with the arrestees. The meeting was attended by senior officials of home ministry.
