2 cops withdrawn over teenager’s death in Rangpur police station

Authorities have withdrawn two police personnel and formed a three-member committee to investigate the death of a young woman at the victim support centre at the Kotwali Police Station under Rangpur Metropolitan Police.

The deceased Ruhi (19) from Jhenaidah's Harinakuntho area was found hanging from the ceiling at the victim support centre yesterday, reports our local correspondent quoting police. Assistant Sub-Inspector Nadira Akter and constable Afroza Begum were withdrawn in this connection," said Abu Maruf Hossain, deputy commissioner (crime) of RMP.

The body of the deceased has been handed over to her family after an autopsy at the Rangpur Medical College, the official said. Abu Maruf also said a three-member committee has been formed which would be led by him to investigate the incident. The other members of the committee are RMP officials Menhajul Alam, DC (traffic), and Mahb-ul-Alam, assistant commissioner.

Ruhi reportedly had a relationship with one Akash from Rangpur's Baharkachna Ram Govindamore area and she had come to Rangpur city from Jhenaidah on January 22 to meet him. However, after reaching there. She found his mobile phone switched off and was stranded on the spot.

Later, Haragaccha police rescued her around 3:30 am on yesterday night after being informed via 999 national helpline, and took her to the victim support centre, where she died by hanging from the ceiling with her veil, said police.
