Teachers should be aware of physical abuse in teaching students in madrasas, said the Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni.She was speaking as the chief guest while joining a discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Madrasa General Teachers Association at the National Press Club on Saturday afternoon.

The education minister said that the students of the madrasa are being physically abused in various ways while learning there. In many cases, they are also being sexually abused. At present a lot of such information is coming up through social media. Especially in madrasas, the cane is still used extremely. Madrasa teachers need to be aware of these issues.

She said that where the court has ruled to stop the physical abuse of students, many students of the madrasa are still being physically abused. It needs to stop.

Dipu Moni said that efforts are being made to modernize madrasa education with the combination of modern knowledge and science. Care must be taken not to misinterpret Islam anywhere. We want to advance in knowledge and science by containing the words of the Holy Qur’an.

The president of the association Md. Harun Aur Rashid presided over the discussion where former chief whip ASM Firoz, general secretary of the teachers’ council Shahjahan Alam Saju and others were present.
