International Training and Workshop on “Computer-Aided Drug-Design and Discovery” organized by Health Med Science Research Network.

National and international researchers and students participated in this 7-day workshop held in Dhaka.

The 7-day workshop and training titled “Molecular Docking, Dynamics, Computer Aided Drug Design and Bioinformatics” was conducted from 16th November to 24th November 2022 through both online zoom platform and hands-on-training sessions. A day-long hands-on training session was held on 24th November 2022 at the seminar hall of NGO Forum for Public Health, Lalmatia, Dhaka.

Three scientists and trainers in computer-aided drug design, computational chemistry and bioinformatics Ajay Kumar (Senior Lecturer, Department of Chemistry, European University of Bangladesh), Dr. Shabana Bibi (Assistant Professor, Department of Biosciences, Shifa Tamir-e-Millat University, Pakistan) and Mr. Abdus Samad (Founder and Senior Researcher, Computational Biology Laboratory, Biosol Centre, Bangladesh) conducted workshops and training programs.

This 7-day workshop provides hands-on training from basic to advanced levels of drug design. Among which, the most important are - how to select a new drug by using computer biological database and artificial intelligence, how to design that molecule as a potential drug, the potential action of the drug in the body, the potential binding affinity of the new drug with the protein or receptor, To impart theoretical knowledge and hands-on training on its persistence in the body, potential side effects and toxicity, how long or how long the drug will be completely eliminated from the body, and its level of efficacy as a new drug.

University of Babylon (Iraq) professor among the participants in the training. Hossain said, “I would like to thank everyone at the Health Med Science Research Network, the workshop organizer, for the valuable information and continuous support. I benefited a lot from this workshop and am very happy to participate.”

In the speech of the chief guest, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Zakerul Abedin said, Bhuyya appreciated the initiative of Health Med Science Research Network for organizing such high level research workshops and training programs. He also mentioned that the current government always encourages research and innovation activities.

In a special guest speech, the chairman of the pharmaceutical chemistry department of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Shah Amran in his speech motivated the participants to strive continuously to achieve success in research and innovation.

The founder of Health Med Science Research Network. Md. Moklesur Rahman Sarkar said that the regulatory process for approval of researched complementary and alternative medicines such as nutraceuticals and herbal medicines in countries like India, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia is very easy and convenient. But the regulatory process of the Department of Drug Administration in Bangladesh does not allow approval of new investigational products, unless they have been used in developed countries including America, Europe.

For example, Dr. Moklesur Rahman said that India and China have patented and approved hundreds of research-based natural medicines for prevention and treatment of Covid-19 infection and they are being used by the people but not a single product has been approved for such treatment in Bangladesh or the road to approval has been blocked. . It is very disappointing for the researchers and also for the nation.

He also said that by following the regulatory process of India and China, the country will benefit if the new formula of important herbal medicines obtained by research is approved by changing the rules and regulations for the approval of new alternative medicines available for research, the researchers will be encouraged.

The closing session was presided over by the Head of Academic and Research Affairs of State University of Bangladesh Pharmacy Department and founder of Health Med Science Research Network. Md. Moklesur Rahman Sarkar. The joint secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh was present as the chief guest. Zakerul Abedin and the chairman of the pharmaceutical chemistry department of Dhaka University, Prof. Dr. Shah Amran were present as special guests.

Dhaka University, Khulna University, Jessore Science and Technology University, State University of Bangladesh, North-South University, Asia Pacific University, European University of Bangladesh, Daffodil International University, Independent University, Manarat International University, University of Babylon (Iraq), and several researchers, faculty members and students from National University of Science and Technology (Pakistan) participated.
