Bangladesh faced New Zealand in the first T20 of the three-match series on Sunday. The hosts batted first at Seddon Park in Hamilton, scored 210 runs after losing 4 wickets. In reply, Mahmudullah’s team defeated by 66 runs in reply.

In reply to 210 runs, Liton Das and Mohammad Naim opened the innings for Bangladesh, however, Liton returned to the dressing room with only 4 runs after being hit by Tim Southee’s ball.Shortly afterward, Naim – who was in rhythm – fell into the trap of Lockie Ferguson’s LBW. He scored 27 runs.

After falling two wickets, Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun “gave their wickets” after playing some foul shots. Legspinner Ish Sodhi returned both. Before returning to the dressing room, Soumya scored 5 and Mithun 4 runs.

Sodhi hit another double in his 2nd over - where his victims were Mahmudullah Riyad and Mahedi Hasan. Riyad returned to the dug-out with 11 runs, on the other hand, Mahedi could not open the run-score.    Afif Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin took the helm of Bangladesh after losing 6 wickets in just eight overs.

Earlier, New Zealand captain Tim Southee decided to bat after winning the toss. ODI captain Tamim Iqbal already took leave from the T20 series due to personal reasons where Mushfiqur Rahim could not play due to shoulder injury. For this, the Bangladesh cricket team started the T20 series against New Zealand without the two-star players.

Debutant Nasum Ahmed started the innings with the ball and got a taste of wickets in his first over in international cricket. The left-arm spinner returned New Zealand's debutant opener, Finn Allen, with zero runs. He then returned Martin Guptill in his third over. Earlier, Guptill and Devon Conway scored a partnership of 50 runs. The Kiwi opener returned to the dressing room after scoring 35 runs from 27 balls.

The hosts then proceeded to a huge run score with the bat of Conway and Willie Young. Young made his debut by scoring 50 off 26 balls. The right-handed batsman was thwarting Bangladesh’s bowling attack with stormy batting. Mahedi Hasan brought him back in the 17th over. Young made 53 off 30 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes and was caught by Afif at mid-wicket.

After that, Bangladesh did not see any more wickets. New Zealand scored 210 runs after losing three wickets and gave a target of 211 runs to Bangladesh. Devon Conway was unbeaten with 92 runs and Glenn Phillips was unbeaten with 24 runs. Nasum took two wickets and Mahedi took one for Bangladesh.
