Parveen Sultana Diti, one of the leading personalities of the Bengali film. Her acting in different roles is still spotted in the heart of the viewers.Today is the fifth death anniversary of this successful actress of Dhallywood film. On this day in 2016, she left the world by weeping her millions of fans. 

Born on 31 March 1965 in Narayanganj, Diti completed higher secondary examination from Eden Mohila College and honors from Lalmatia Women College.

Since her childhood, she dreamed to become a famous singer of the country. And to achieve her dream, she practiced music regularly. As a singer, Diti got an award at a national competition by the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.

While she was singing for Bangladesh Television, she was noticed by actor Al Mansur. He cast her in the television drama ‘Laili Majnu’ opposite actor Manas Bandopadhyay. Diti’s performance was very much appreciated in this drama, however, her family prevented her from acting. After a short break, she acted on a play ‘Imitation’ directed by Fakhrul Arefin.Then Diti came to the film industry through the talent hunt competition ‘Notun Mukher Sondhane’ in 1984.

She debuted through the film ‘Daak Diye Jai’ directed by Udayon Chowdhury, but the film was never released. Her first released film was ‘Ami-i Ostad’ directed by Ajmal Huda Mithu. 

Diti played the role of the wife of popular actor Alamgir in the 1987 movie ‘Swami Stri’ directed by Subhash Dutta. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the first time for her performance in the film.

In the long 31-year career, Diti has played in more than two hundred films. Among these, Swami Stri`, ‘Jonakir Alo’, ‘Lady Inspector’, ‘KhunerBadla’, ‘Dui Jibon’, ‘KaalSokale’, ‘Kaliya’, ‘SheshUpohar’, ‘Bhai Bondhu’, ‘Chorom Aghat’, ‘Purno Doirgho Prem Kahini’, ‘Noy Number Bipod Sanket’ etc. are notable.

In her personal life, Diti first married Sohail Chowdhury. Together they had a daughter named Lamia Chowdhury (b.1987), and a son, Shafayet Chowdhury Dipto (b. 1989). Later, Diti married actor Ilias Kanchan which ended up in divorce as well.

Besides films, Diti has also acted in TV dramas. Apart from this, she has also hosted culinary programs. She was also been seen singing occasionally outside of acting. Even her solo album was released. She also acted in numerous TVCs.
