A deadly fire burnt down some 20 houses at Masjid Colony adjacent to Alam Dock Yard of Kanthaltali area in ​​Rangamati on Saturday afternoon.

Soon after the fire started, 3 units of Rangamati Fire Service went to the spot and brought the fire under control after one-hour attempts. Being a raw house, the fire spread very fast and gutted about 20 houses. Besides the fire service, police, BGB and local people join the firefighters.

Locals claimed that the fire started from Mahbub Alam's kitchen.

Local Mozammel Haque said that a coil of fire was suddenly seen around 1.30 pm. Due to the crowded area, the fire spread very fast and instantly the surrounding houses caught fire. Although the fire service arrived on time, it was too late to start work due to overcrowding.

Rangamati Fire Service Deputy Director Mostafa Mohsin said, "We are not yet sure how the fire started. The extent of the damage has not yet been determined. Details will be known at the end of the investigation."

Rangamati DC Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, SP Mir Moddacher Hossain, and other government officials visited the spot.

DC Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said, "We initially thought that about 20 houses were burnt in the fire. TRs have been allocated among the victims and arrangements will be made at nearby schools for overnight stays."

The shopkeepers in the area panicked due to the fire and brought the goods from Rangamati to Chattogram Highway. As a result, the traffic was completely stopped.
